Bark in the Park

When New York State passed the Companion Animal Care Standards Act in 2022, it gave animal shelters until the end of 2025 to upgrade their facilities, strengthen record keeping, implement new rules on care and hygiene, and make other improvements.
That’s great news for cats, dogs and other shelter animals. But the deadline is getting closer, and places like the Tri-Lakes Humane Society must make big investments in ensuring they are compliance with the new law.
Once again, Adirondack Regional FCU is a lead sponsor of the annual Bark in the Park event. Scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Tupper Lake Waterfront Park, proceeds from this event will directly benefit the humane society, which is building an addition to increase room for kennels and quarantine space.
The humane society has secured a $500,000 grant from New York State to help pay for the work, which also includes plumbing upgrades, new sound dampening systems, replacement of ventilation and damaged floors, cat porch improvements and kennel additions. The total cost of these renovations, however, will near $1,000,000.
Save the date! This year’s Bark in the Park event will feature food trucks, live music, a pet costume contest, professional caricature artist, vendors, local business gift card raffle and low-cost microchipping. Go to trilakeshumanesociety.com for details.
