Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union is sponsoring this year's FIRST LEGO League at the Strand Center for the Arts in Plattsburgh. Open to students from 4-16, FIRST LEGO introduces science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through fun hands-on projects.

Registration for the Discover group (grades pre-K–1, ages 4-6) opened last week. Kids will stoke their curiosity and creativity using Lego Duplo blocks. Sessions will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays, from Oct. 16-Dec. 18. Cost: $145, Strand members; $160, non-members. Scholarships are available.

Registration for students in grades 1-4 (Explore) and 5-8 (Challenge) will open in November, with classes starting in January.

Since 1998, FIRST LEGO has worked with more than 679,000 participants in 110 countries, helping students build confidence and teamwork while learning about coding, engineering, robotics and other valuable skills. Students learn to solve problems and overcome obstacles, putting technology to work while part of a team. Our oldest group, Challenge, goes head-to-head in a team-based competition in which each teams builds a Lego robot to get through pre-set missions.
