  • Credit Union Helps Aspiring Golfer Go Global

This summer, Tupper Lake High School senior Ashton Clark-Sanford will try to go under par Down Under—with the Adirondack Regional FCU’s help.

Clark-Sanford is among a group of 40 U.S. amateurs selected to compete in Australia on a trip led by Coast2Coast International Athletics, which arranges overseas events for up-and-coming amateurs. The 18-year-old is raising money to cover the cost of the $6,000 trip, and the credit union contributed $500.

“I probably wouldn’t be able to take advantage of this opportunity without these donations,” said Clark-Sanford, who plans to play NCAA Div. III at Western Connecticut State University next year.

It’s Clark-Sanford’s first trip out of the U.S., but he’s hoping for more: The 5.9-handicap golfer is hoping to someday be a touring pro. If nothing else, he said, he’d like to be a coach, helping kids discover the same love of the game he has.
